Plot Summary –

On a French golf course, a millionaire is found stabbed in the back…
An urgent cry for help brings Poirot to France. But he arrives too late to save his client, whose brutally stabbed body now lies face downwards in a shallow grave on a golf course.
But why is the dead man wearing his son’s overcoat? And who was the impassioned love-letter in the pocket for? Before Poirot can answer these questions, the case is turned upside down by the discovery of a second, identically murdered corpse…

My Review –

The book is written, well almost more than 75 years ago, yet it contains the charm of Poirot and Agatha Christie. Being the second in Hercule Poirot series, the book is good but not as good as the later works. The case is about a French Millionaire found stabbed in the back in his Villa. There is a suspicious letter and a torn off check addressed to a suspicious person who is yet to be revealed. Was the murderer his mistress, or is his son being framed? While ogling over the case, there’s a discovery of another body of an unknown person, stabbed in the same manner. Who’s the victim and who’s behind both of these murders and what might be the motive be is yet to be discovered by Detective Poirot.

The mystery seems a bit predictive where at places you can decipher the murderer or the missing angle which is overlooked by the author. If you read closely you might find the murderer on your own, though the motive behind the person being a murderer is hard to find. It’s a good addition to the Poirot collection I’ve read so far and wish to read more of the same.

What I liked – Mystery and the motive.

What could’ve been better  All seemed fine to me.

Writing Style Narration from Cap. Hasting’s point of view.

Conclusion – Light read and interesting motive behind the murder plot.

31st BOOK of 2019 (115th book overall)
